The formula values for viticulture del Salento Lecce

The formula values for viticulture del Salento Lecce

Antonio Bruno *

------------------------------------

In the presence of the Area Director for Rural Development Policies of the Puglia Region Agronomist Giuseppe Ferro was held in Lecce at the headquarters of the Provincial Agriculture a meeting of the wine world. In this paper a proposal focused on this reality of excellence in Salento Lecce.

------------------------------------

The meaning of the word wine

Today I hope not writing drunken wine of Salento in Lecce. I discovered that the word "wine" stems from the Sanskrit verb mood which means "love", and is always derived from this word that is the name of the goddess Venus Venus. Love, passion, red blood in their veins, are the words that accompany the drink that allows you to "let go" of looking at things lightly, even if the wine should be treated with care and drinking in moderation.

The blending wine of Salento Lecce

Mario Soldati wrote "wine to wine," a book describing his travels to discover the genuine wine. When you arrive in Lecce, Salento writes that the late nineteenth century in Italy there is a law requiring dealers in wine, an alcoholic content of at least 10 degrees. Many of the wines of the north do not come to this degree and you may not add sugar (as in France is not prohibited) during fermentation to increase alcohol content. In the late '40s and then in the 50's, wagons and carriages from the train station must Salento Lecce to go to the north. We must was used to "cut" the wine of the northern low-alcohol and thanks to the production of grapes containing a massive amount of sugar there was the economic livelihood of many grape growers del Salento Lecce

The surplus in wine production

In Salento Lecce then came the advent of the imbalance between grapes and produced wine sold. There were stocks of wine to 31 August 1978 441mila hectoliters. To give you the idea there were 44 million one-liter bottles of wine unsold! But if we comb through the data of the surplus to August 31, 1979 we see that 73 million bottles and 31 August 1980, the surpluses were more than 100 million bottles! Given a huge right?

Effects of Package wine EEC in Salento Lecce

In the 80s the then European Economic Community developed the so-called "Wine Package" which included a series of regulations aimed at rebalancing the market. These regulations have regulated new plants and clearing the temporary or permanent abandonment aim of growing vineyard. These regulations have been devastating to the vineyards of Salento in Lecce.

The area of vineyards in the Salento Lecce

The data of the agricultural land in 1929 reveal that in the area of Salento Lecce was 36mila vineyard acres. In 1949 about 66 thousand hectares UPSEA points, while the 1972 survey, conducted by the Inspectorate for Agriculture of Lecce, lists about 31mila hectares which revealed a strong reduction of cultivation had also increased in 1980 reaching 36mila hectares.

By the Federation of Farmers of Salento Lecce come vineyard acreage estimates in the order of 5 thousand hectares in 2011!

The Consortium of the wine of Salento Lecce

Producers of grapes of Salento Lecce have always been, the great majority of owners of small vineyards. In Lecce, Salento, despite many attempts, there was a single structure that deals with the sale of all wine produced in the Salento, and today this unique structure is not me that has been established. In Salento Lecce up to 80 years there were 43 cooperatives and private cellars of the 97 municipalities, in short, a wine cellar every two Comini!

The lack an overall vision has led to everyone being gone for their own account, as they say in no particular order, and the consequence was to have a product in the 80's lying unsold.

The meeting 14 January 2011 stakeholder wine

Yesterday I took part in the proceedings of the meeting convened by the Director-Area Policies for Rural Development of the Puglia Region Agronomist Giuseppe Ferro of all those stakeholders with regard to viticulture. A long debate, many proposals. I listened to everyone and it is clear that we are faced with a series of business realities have made quality and excellence of their flag. There is always concern about the decline in demand and this does raise the defenses of all, especially those who, with difficulty, have managed to conquer a market that ensures the long-sought "added value".

The niche markets

A recent study by the University of Siena, sponsored by the National Institute for Foreign Trade, said that the problem of lack of competitiveness of Italian firms can be overcome through the adoption of strategies and business focus through the selection of markets niche.

The formulas for the use of the

We all know that two main formulas for the use of company are "formula in the book", where profit is obtained by maximizing the quantities sold, and "values in the formula" in which profit is obtained with the sustainability of high prices.

In the first case it is necessary to produce large quantities of standardized products and low unit costs, a product considered by a consumer commodity, and in which the differences are not highly rewarding on sales results.

On the contrary in the second case requires a manufacturing technology capable of determining a very articulated production for highly differentiated products and whose differential benefits received by consumers justify a higher price than other products in the same market segment.

My proposal to the producers of grapes and wine of Salento Lecce

The discussion of the January 14, 2011 in Lecce if you could find a perspective constituted a single consortium for marketing of wine with the application of the model of "formula to values."

Whereas, in a model formula in the book "it is necessary that the firm is large, in accordance with this condition is not stringent and therefore the model is viable even in micro-reality would be as small and medium-sized enterprise which is the productive wine Salento Lecce
